Summer Orthodox Children's Camp.

With the blessing of Archbishop Simon of Brussels and Belgium and Archbishop Elisey of The Hague and the Netherlands, a summer Orthodox children's camp was held from August 1 to 8, 2026, in the town of Hoek van Holland, near the Dutch coast.

The children's spiritual mentors were Priest Dimitri Yatsun, rector of the Holy Epiphany Parish in Mechelen, and Priest Anatoly Babyuk, rector of the St. Alexander Nevsky Parish in Rotterdam. The camp counselors were 25 young people from various parishes of the Belgian and Dutch dioceses, under the direction of Valentina Kolpakidou.

Over 60 children aged 7 to 17 from various countries and canonical jurisdictions came to share in the joy of meeting and spending time together. This year's camp theme was dedicated to the Holy Apostles. Throughout the week, the participants studied the exploits of the holy apostles and reflected on the application of their teachings to their lives.

The day began and ended with communal prayer. After morning rituals, the children enjoyed exercise, hot porridge, and a rich and varied entertainment program: icon painting lessons, trips to the seaside, hikes, fun swimming in the pool, a first aid workshop, sports games, and creative activities. Throughout the day, traditional camp songs and various dances were often heard.

On the eve of the last day of camp, the Sacrament of Confession was celebrated, in preparation for which, according to tradition, the Jesus Prayer was recited in 11 languages. On August 7, a solemn Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the camp's home church, led by Archbishop Simon and Archbishop Elisey. After the service, Archbishop Simon addressed all those present with words of joy about their shared ministry at this children's camp. His Grace also expressed his sincere hope for the camp's continued existence and the growth of its campers and educators in peace and joy.

Like a large family, everyone at the camp learned something and was nourished by the warmth of fellowship with loved ones. Communion with God and the opportunity to grow closer to Him were paramount. Having gained invaluable spiritual experience and nourished by each other's love, everyone went home with tired eyes, but with hearts filled with faith, joy, and gratitude for every warm and inspiring memory.
